Middle School Virtual Orientation to Groupwork Unit
This virtualized version of the Stanford SCALE Science Unit 0 – Orientation to Groupwork for 6th grade. was co-designed by Melissa Wilburn (6th grade STEMAZing Teacher Leader with the Marana Unified School District), Sherrie Dennis (STEMAZing Robot General and Teacher Leader), and DaNel Hogan (Director of The STEMAZing Project). It can be used at any middle school level and might even be useful for high school teachers as well. The teacher guide below has links to both the Google Folder from which teachers can make copies of all the documents needed to run this unit virtually and a walkthrough video. These links are also provided below. The Google Folder includes a Teacher Slide Deck, Digital Student Notebook, and all the Google Docs and Slides files you would assign to students through Google Classroom including Breakout Room Checklists for the various times you would want students working in smaller groups using Zoom or similar. This unit can easily be used on other learning platforms. The vidoe of the unit walkthrough we did with middle school teachers from Marana USD is useful for acquainting yourself with the various tasks. The YouTube description for the video includes time markers for each task in case you just want to review one particular task. Feel free to use any and all of this unit, modify it, and share it out with others. As always, if you have suggestions for improvements, find a mistake, or make a modifcation you would like to share back with us, we appreciate it. Thank you to SlidesMania for the free digital notebook templates.
